JUDITH (Catholic Bible)

Judith

In Israel’s land a threat arose
Assyria’s king brought mighty foes
Their armies strong their banners high
The people feared they soon would die

Judith, widow brave & wise
Trusted the Lord who rules the skies
She prayed for strength & courage pure
To save her land from danger sure

She dressed with beauty, calm & bright
& went to enemy’s camp by night
She gained the trust of Holofernes
His pride was great, his heart he spurns

At banquet table she did stay
Her courage set to end the fray
She seized her sword with hands of might
& struck him down that very night

The enemy fell into dismay
The Israelites arose that day
Their foes were routed far & wide
God’s power turned the battle’s tide

Judith returned with songs of cheer
Her people praised the Lord sincere
For He had guided her so bold
& rescued all from hands of old

The story shows with faith & prayer
God’s strength can triumph anywhere
Though weak we seem by human eyes
Through Him we conquer and we rise

Thus Judith stands both firm & true
A model for both me & you
Her courage, faith & clever plan
Were guided by God’s mighty hand
