Hosea

The Lord called Hosea to take a wife

Gomer, who strayed through fickle life

Her faithless ways were plain to see

Yet God commanded love faithfully

He married her to show the land

How Israel turned from God’s hand

Though they pursued false gods & gold

The Lord remained both strong & bold

The children bore prophetic names

To tell the story of their shame

Jezreel, Lo-Ruhamah, Lo-Ammi

Spoke God’s message plainly to the army

Though Israel sinned & wandered far

God’s love remained, their guiding star

He called them back from wayward ways

To worship Him through all their days

Hosea pleaded, urged the heart

To leave the idols, make a start

Repent, return, receive His grace

And see His mercy fill the place

The Lord declared His steadfast plan

Though people faltered, He would stand

He heals the soul, restores the land

His covenant holds by His command

He likens love to morning dew

Refreshing hearts, making them new

Though punishment may come with pain

Forgiveness follows after rain

The faithful walk in paths made right

They seek the Lord both day & night

Though trials come, though judgment looms

God’s mercy shines & hope resumes

Thus Hosea’s life & words reveal

The depth of God’s compassion real

Though hearts are hard, though people stray

The Lord will guide & show the way

Through prophecy, through love, through plea

He calls His people back to Thee

And teaches all both young & old

That God’s own love is pure & bold
