Habakkuk
How long, O Lord, shall evil reign
The wicked thrive, the just in pain
The prophet cries with heart so torn
Yet waits for God to break the morn
The Lord responds with plan unseen
Though justice slow, His hand is keen
He raises nations to chastise
Yet none escape His watchful eyes
Though Babylon shall come with might
To punish wrong and conquer right
The righteous live by faith alone
Their trust in God, His hand is shown
The prophet marvels at God’s ways
Though mystery clouds our nights and days
The vision comes, though delayed in time
The Lord will act, His word sublime
The mountains shake, the waters roar
Yet God is faithful, strong, & sure
He brings the lowly from despair
And guards the just with tender care
The Lord is mighty, holy, true
He sees all deeds, both false & new
Though wicked plots their plans may frame
God holds the world, unchanged, the same
The just shall live by trusting Him
Though shadows fall, though light seems dim
He guides the faithful through the strife
And fills their hearts with hope & life
The prophet prays with humble heart
For strength, for courage, wisdom, part
To trust in God in every storm
And know His hand will guide & warm
Thus Habakkuk speaks of doubt & praise
Of waiting long through trying days
Yet faith prevails, hope shines, God reigns
And justice comes to break all chains
